Victoria Park’s Roos Island to reopen by hosting free summer music series

The City of Kitchener is officially reopening Victoria Park’s Roos Island in July and it will launch a free music series beginning next month.

A spokesperson for the city confirmed to CityNews 570 on Wednesday that Roos Island will in July. A variety of local artists will play at the newly renovated bandstand throughout the summer for the community to enjoy.

“The Roos Island Music Series will begin in early July and continue until late August. This free series will feature a wide variety of artists from Kitchener’s music scene. We plan to share all the details next week.”

The city said they expect the renovations on the bandstand to wrap up the first week of July. They added that the Heritage Bridge rehabilitation work has been completed.

“Contracted security staff maintain a regular presence throughout Victoria Park, including Roos Island.”

Roos Island has been closed to the public since April 2023 when a protest and encampment set up on the island.
