High school students host youth STEM conference at UW

Young students from around Waterloo Region and across the country will get the chance to hear from one of Canada’s pioneers in physics and technology Saturday.

The Canadian Youth STEM Conference hosted at the University of Waterloo, featuring a presentation from laureate winning professor Donna Strickland.

Strickland was born just down Highway 7 in Guelph and is known around the world for her work on ultrafast lasers. She currently works as a professor at UW.

In 2018, Strickland was jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for her work on the development of laser technology.

Students from grades nine to twelve will have a chance to listen closely to what Strickland has to say, along with other leading experts on emerging technology, at Saturday’s the sold-out conference.
