Mock graduation coming to University of Waterloo pro-Palestinian encampment

The pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of Waterloo is staging a protest graduation Monday, ahead of the school’s graduation ceremonies beginning Tuesday.

A social media post from the group, Occupy U Waterloo, said the event is meant to honour the graduates of Gaza who could not be at their own schools due to Israel’s war against Hamas.

It’s set to go at 7:00, Monday night, at the B.C. Matthews Hall Green.

Participants are invited to wear a cap and gown if they have them.

The event will follow an earlier rally at 2:00, Monday afternoon, at the encampment outside Graduate House.

Five days of commencement ceremonies hosted by the University begin Tuesday.

The school has already announced bags and personal items of those in attendance will be searched, and even graduates, not just their families and guests, will require a ticket to attend.
