Canadian Blood Services celebrates National Blood Donor Week

Sunday marks the beginning of a week to honour people whose donations have changed lives locally and across the country, and to remind others that more donations are always needed.

It’s National Blood Donor Week, hosted by Canadian Blood Services, with drives happening at centres all over the country.

Throughout June, Canadian Blood Services will be recognizing selfless donors who have made all the difference for patients.

Every minute, someone in Canada needs blood.

A trauma patient or accident victim could need up to 50 units of blood in an emergency to help them survive, and those with chronic conditions may need hundreds of units over the year to live a healthy life.

Recently, eligibility for those who can donate has expanded.

As part of the event, the blood services are giving out limited-edition arm bandages featuring messages of thanks for the generosity of those who donate.

You can donate in Waterloo at the Canadian Blood Services site at 94 Bridgeport Rd., or in Guelph at 130 Silvercreek Pkwy.

Visit blood.ca for more information.
