Where have all the decoys gone? The City of Waterloo is wondering what happened to several coyote decoys that were set up in Waterloo Park to ward off geese.
The decoys apparently disappeared one by one over the course of a week or two, several weeks ago.
The city isn’t calling them “stolen” but just says they’re “missing”, and they’re not sure where they are.
The eight lifelike 3D coyote decoys were installed along the perimeter of Silver Lake back in April as part of a trial experiment to keep geese away.
In a statement to CityNews Kitchener, the City of Waterloo said there are no current plans to replace the “disappearing decoys,” although one is still being held in storage.
The decoys cost approximately $100 each.
While the fake predators won’t be making a return anytime soon, the City of Waterloo is developing a broader goose management plan for the park for the future.
