‘Significant emotional impact’ after Stratford home robbed of ashes of family members, pets

Police in Stratford are making an appeal to whoever stole the ashes of two family members and their pets to please drop them off at the funeral home that prepared them.

Police say a home on Ontario Street was broken into sometime between May 15 and 22.

Ashes of the victim’s cremated husband and brother-in-law, stored in two separate packages, were stolen.

One of the packages also included the ashes of two family pets.

Also taken were silverware, dishes, and jewellery.

Police say there are no suspects at this time.

“Due to the significant emotional impact that a theft of this nature can have on the victim, family, and friends of the deceased, the Stratford Police Service is sending an appeal to the person(s) responsible to place the ashes outside of Young Funeral Home…or taken [sic] to the Stratford Police Service….to allow for the ashes to be reunited with their loved ones,” police said in a statement.

Young Funeral Home is located at 430 Huron Street.

Police headquarters is at 17 George Street West.
