Severe thunderstorms are possible in Waterloo Region on Wednesday night and could lead to wind gusts of up to 100 km/h.
Environment Canada issued both a severe thunderstorm watch and a severe thunderstorm warning as scattered thunderstorms are expected to drift through the area in the evening hours.
The weather system could lead to torrential rain, large hail, and strong winds.
The national weather agency said conditions are favourable for the development of “dangerous thunderstorms” and warned residents to seek shelter if threatening weather approaches.
In addition to potential flash flooding and pooling on roads, the storms could wreak havoc in waterways so water-related activities may become unsafe.
The strong winds could also toss around loose objects, damage weak buildings, and even overturn large vehicles.
