The K-W Symphony isn’t dead yet: Efforts continue to bring it back

By Matt Hutcheson

Back in September, the future of the K-W Symphony looked pretty bleak.

The organization was forced to declare bankruptcy and cancel the 2023/2024 season, all while the board of directors resigned.

Since then, members have been working to bring the symphony back while keeping the music alive through community performances. The response to the effort has given members quite a bit of hope.

“We did a concert in May and had a great turnout. It was sold out and was the first full orchestra concert of the whole season. The support of the community was so great,” said harpist Lori Gemmell while speaking to The Mike Farwell Show.

Gemmell believes the community really wants to see the symphony return and members are determined to see that happen.

“The membership is working towards electing a new board so we can figure out how we can actually move forward.”

Until then, the members will continue to perform for the community. There are three shows this weekend that celebrate both the move into early summer and the transitional situation of the K-W Symphony at this time.

Everyone is invited to attend. Tickets are available now.
