One teen injured, one arrested after armed assault in Cambridge

A teenage female victim is recovering from serious injuries, and another female is in police custody, after an armed assault in Cambridge.

Regional Police said it happened Wednesday night, around 9:15 p.m. on Hespeler Road and Bishop Street North — the heart of that city’s shopping area.

Police sent out a post on social media soon after 10:00 p.m. announcing the incident and a heavy police presence around the scene.

According to the initial investigation, the incident stems from a physical altercation that took place between two individuals outside of an establishment in the area.

It’s alleged the suspect, an 18-year-old woman, pulled a knife and assaulted a 17-year-old youth.

That victim was taken to an out-of-region hospital with serious injuries, while the suspect was located nearby and arrested.

They’ve since been charged with assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police have indicated the two involved parties are believed to be known to each other, as they said the investigation is still ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the incident, including any witnesses, is asked to contact police at 519-570-9777 extension 6370.
