A woman who was wanted on more than two dozen charges relating to a criminal fraud investigation has been arrested in Kitchener.

About a month ago, Waterloo Regional Police announced they were searching for a 28-year-old woman named Alexandra Krafchek Alfaro.

Police said she was known to frequent Waterloo and was facing a total of 25 charges in an investigation into stolen identity documents and stolen rental vehicles.

On Monday night, police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle in a plaza parking lot in the Glasgow Street and Ira Needles Boulevard area.

Police believed the vehicle was involved in a gas theft that happened earlier in the day at a Woolwich business.

Officers tried to conduct a traffic stop but the male driver allegedly sped away, driving over landscaping features and almost hitting a police cruiser in the process.

No one was hurt and police did not initiate a pursuit because of public safety concerns.

About 20 minutes later, the male driver’s female passenger reportedly returned to the plaza and was spotted inside a business.

She was placed under arrest and was identified as Alexandra Krafchek Alfaro.

She has been charged with six additional offences including theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with undertaking.

Police continue to search for the male driver, who remains at large.
