Region of Waterloo kicking off Emergency Preparedness Week

The Region of Waterloo is kicking off Emergency Preparedness Week today with events to remind the public to plan for every season.

Today, the City of Cambridge will host an emergency management booth at the 50th anniversary event of the infamous Cambridge flood, hosted at the Fire Hall Museum from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The flood happened in 1974 when the Grand River spilled over its banks and rushed into downtown Cambridge, creating what some consider to be the worst flood in local history. The disaster caused $34 million in damage.

From Monday to Wednesday, the City of Kitchener will be hosting an event at City Hall in the rotunda from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and then again Friday and Saturday at Fairview Mall from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

If you have questions about emergency preparedness, email the Region of Waterloo’s Emergency Management team at emergencymanagement@regionofwaterloo.ca.
