Wet weekend ahead for Waterloo Region amid warm temperatures

Waterloo Region can expect a wet final weekend for April and temperatures in the high 20s.

Gerald Cheng, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said a Colorado low is pushing warm air into the region causing a temperature spike along with a risk of thundershowers.

“There’s a warming trend happening this weekend,” said Cheng. “With that, there is a chance of thundershowers as well through Saturday and Sunday as the temperatures climb into the next work week.”

Current Environment Canada projects show temperatures are going to hit as high as 23 C on Sunday.

Looking ahead to May, Cheng said the next four weeks will see higher-than-normal temperatures and lower-than-normal levels of precipitation.

“We’ll get more data as we roll ahead another week, but right now it looks like for southwestern and southern Ontario, it’s going to be above normal [temperatures] over the next four weeks.”
