Some of the biggest acts in Canadian jazz are coming to Uptown Waterloo this July.
This year’s Sun Life UpTown Waterloo Jazz Festival has landed pianist and singer, Laila Biali, as their Friday night headliner.
The Saturday night star will be Cuban pianist, Hilario Duran and his Latin Big Band.
Artistic Director Derek Hines said about Duran, “I don’t think the Festival has ever had 19 musicians on the stage at one time so this will be a fantastic live experience. The place will definitely be rockin!”
The festival wraps up on Sunday afternoon with The Canadian Jazz Collective.
Local musicians at the festival include Ralf Buschmeyer, the Natu Trio, Adam Bowman and Patti Payne with former Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony double bass player, Ian Whitman.
Also on stage this year, singing and playing piano, will be Kitchener-Conestoga MP, Tim Louis.
The festival runs July 19-21, in the square beside Waterloo City Hall, and, as always, is free.
