Waterloo Region business seeing ‘a lot of demand’ as patio season starts early

Some restaurant patios were busy this past weekend as people wanted to get outside and enjoy the warm weather the region has been experiencing this month.

The weather was hanging around 16 C on Sunday and the co-owner of Morty’s Pub in Waterloo, Jay Taylor, said they saw a high demand for their patio, adding that they were packed full.

“It’s a real extra little pop for us, and a great atmosphere, people outside enjoying the sun, soaking it all in,” Taylor said.

“We are open when it’s sunny out and warm, or if anybody wants to sit out there we’re more than happy to accommodate them.”

Morty’s Pub has been in its current location on King St. for over 25 years. Taylor said they never really have a set time or day of when they plan to open the patio.

“It’s based on weather and demand and let me tell you this past weekend there was a lot of demand.”

Taylor added that whenever they start to see the weather get warm and sunny like it has been they throw the umbrellas up to let people know the patio is open.

As the weather continues to hit double digits this week, Taylor said they are ready for another patio season.
