Rangers make their first three selections in OHL draft

The Kitchener Rangers are looking towards the future even as they continue their playoff series with the London Knights.

The first three rounds of the OHL draft took place on Friday, and the Rangers made three selections.

In the first round, they took Evan Headrick with the 15th overall pick. The centre is from Garden River, Ontario spent last season with the Oakville Rangers U16 AAA team scoring 21 goals and adding 28 assists in 31 games.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be drafted by such a historic and well-established organization,” said Headrick in a release. “I’m humbled and thrilled to be a part of this team. Walking the same halls as the great players who came before me is truly inspiring. I’m eager to contribute to Kitchener with the same enthusiasm, effort, and hard work that this team is known for.”

In the second round, Kitchener picked defenceman Alexander Bilecki with the 3. He spent last season with the Mississauga Rebels scoring 8 goals and 16 assists in 33 games.

Finally, Kitchener selected Weston Cameron in the third round with the 49th overall pick. The forward had 35 points in 29 games with the Toronto Marlboros.

“We are really happy with how day 1 unfolded,” said Rangers General Manager Mike McKenzie in a release. “All three players we selected are guys we were extremely excited to select, and think will be a big part of our team’s future. We welcome Evan, Alexander, and Weston to Kitchener.”
