Letters written by acclaimed Canadian artist up for auction in New Hamburg

A piece of Canadiana is up for auction in New Hamburg.

Letters written from acclaimed Nova Scotia folk artist Maude Lewis to fellow Canadian artist John H. Kinnear will be auctioned off by Miller and Miller Auctions Ltd. in New Hamburg.

The six letters were written between 1966 and 1967, and include a photograph of Lewis by her front door, marked by Kinnear on the back.

In the letters, Lewis details the progress of her paintings.

Lewis is one of Canada’s most renowned artists and has been the subject of novels, plays, documentaries, and even a feature film. she overcame significant physical disabilities to create her art.

The letters are expected to sell for between $4,000 and $6,000.
