Four people were sent to hospital after a serious, near head-on crash on the expressway through New Hamburg.
Monday evening around 6:30 p.m., Highway 7/8 was shut down at Walker Road after a car and SUV collided.
A 19-year-old woman was seriously injured in the crash, sending her to a trauma centre with potentially life altering injuries, she is now said to be in stable condition.
Three others suffered minor injuries. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.
OPP Sergeant Ted Dongelmans tells CityNews Kitchener, both vehicles were sent off the highway, due to the impact of the crash.
“It does appear that it was a very significant collision, and it wasn’t exactly head-on, but it was very significant, there was severe damage to both vehicles.”
The intersection, marked with stop signs, was closed for several hours for the investigation Monday night.
Everything had reopened by Tuesday morning.
No charges have been laid at this time, Dongelmans said they do not believe either driver was impaired at the time of the crash.
