Guelph woman woken up by burglar who was poking her back

By Erin Anderson

It’s not the wake-up call anyone wants; a Guelph woman dialed 911 after she was woken up by a stranger who was poking her in the back.

It happened around 1 a.m. on Tuesday in the Edinburgh Road and Water Street area of Guelph. The woman, who was in her 60s, was not hurt.

She was jolted awake by the man who was poking her back, and according to police, he admitted he had broken into her house to get something to eat.

The woman later discovered that her glasses and a watch were stolen.

Officers responded to the scene and found the suspect standing on the steps of another home in the neighbourhood.

The woman got her glasses and watch back. A 21-year-old Guelph man has been charged with break and enter and trespassing at night.
