Region of Waterloo unveils concept designs for Cambridge GO station

The Region of Waterloo is showing off designs of a proposed GO transit station in Cambridge as part of an Initial Business case to expand passenger rail service.

The proposed station would be in the area of Pinebush Road and would connect to Guelph Central Station. The line would run on the CN-owned and operated Fergus subdivision that currently carried freight cars.

The proposed line would help residents in Cambridge connect with stations, like Union and Pearson in Toronto.

This follows a 2021 study that found a route between Cambridge and Guelph was preferred over a route between Cambridge and Milton. Financial backing and approval from regional council are still required for the project.

Two meetings have been held this week to meet with the public. The first was on Monday at Cambridge City Hall and the second was held virtually on Tuesday. One more meeting is expected at Guelph City Hall on Thursday between 6-8 p.m.

A survey is also currently being conducted online until April 5 to get feedback from the public. The survey can be accessed here.
