With only two games left in the regular season, the Kitchener Rangers have now lost three of their past four games, two of which were against the Guelph Storm.
Tuesday night’s match up ended in a 5-2 victory for the Storm.
570’s Colour Commentator Paul Fixter said it didn’t help that the Rangers were in the penalty box ten times.
“You have to be mentally strong at this time of year, and the Rangers seemed to get frustrated and allowed Guelph to get under their skin … Guelph was able to capitalize scoring three goals on the power play, that’s not the way you wanna be going as you head into the playoffs.”
And it wasn’t just the game the Rangers lost; the club was without a top defenceman for most of the game.
Cameron Reid took a hit to the boards late in the first period, and didn’t return to the game. The extent of his injuries is not yet known.
Fixter notes his absence, if he isn’t back by Friday, will be felt by the club this weekend.
‘I think it is really important that they get back into their winning ways and find themselves. I think it’s a real good test that they have a good hockey club coming in here Friday, because that’s the standard that they are going to have to face.”
That club is the Oshawa Generals, the top team in the east. The last game of the season takes the Rangers to Erie on Saturday, facing off against the Otters.
Both games can be heard live on CityNews 570.
