OPP search Six Nations property after disappearance of Amber Ellis in 2021

OPP are combing a property for clues this week on Six Nations of the Grand River territory, relating to the disappearance of Amber Ellis three years ago.

Provincial police announced Tuesday that the search is focusing on a property on First Line but stressed the current owners and tenants are not considered persons of interest in the case.

In an update just after 4 p.m., OPP said their search concluded at the location for the day and no human remains were found.

Ellis was reported missing by her mother on Mar. 8, 2021.

Derek Rogers, regional media relations coordinator with West Region OPP, said the investigation has remained active and ongoing ever since.

“Our investigators have deemed foul play to be suspected in her disappearance,” said Rogers. “They are proceeding under that premise at this point; that someone, or a group of individuals, know what happened to Amber Ellis.”

Rogers said there’s a $50,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the investigation. He said no tip is too small.

“It’s another piece of the puzzle, even small tips can complete the picture.”

Rogers pointed to the Lucas Shortreed case, where a tip from the public led to arrests in the fatal hit-and-run after 14 years.

“That case has been resolved and the reward has been issued to the person, or persons, that submitted the tip. So we know that these things do get claimed and it does have an impact on a case.”

When Ellis disappeared, she resided in Hagersville but also had ties to the Cambridge, Brantford, Hamilton, and Norfolk County areas.

She was last seen the near the end of February in 2021 on Six Nations of the Grand River.

“The odds that somebody has some information that can assist our investigators, you would think are pretty good,” said Rogers.

Ellis was 32-years-old at the time and described as being 5’9”, 120 lbs, with a thin build, long dark hair, and brown eyes.

The Amber Ellis tip line remains active and can be reached at 1-866-549-2090.
