Quiet Sunday in university district, unsanctioned party Saturday

People gathered on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day to celebrate in the streets of Waterloo on Saturday.

The highly-anticipated unsanctioned street gathering filled up Marshall St.

Videos posted to social media showed massive crowds partying on the streets throughout the evening.

Wilfrid Laurier University posted reminders to students on social media of nuisance bylaws in effect with fines up to $1,200.

Parking restrictions remain in effect for areas in the University district of Waterloo.

The City of Waterloo stated that an operational plan is in place for Sunday to react to ongoing St. Patrick’s Day activities led by the Waterloo Regional Police Service, and officers will be patrolling by foot, cruisers, and bikes.
