Kitchener company fined $75,000 following workplace injury in 2022

A Kitchener company has been fined $75,000 following a workplace injury.

A worker for Delta Elevator Company of Kitchener fell from a platform, injuring themselves, in December of 2022.

The company was hired to modernize two elevators in an apartment building.

The worker, a sub-contracted electrician, had to climb a 13-tread flight of stairs with a landing on top that had the guardrail removed to move equipment.

The worker fell nine feet from the platform while throwing cardboard to the floor below.

The Ontario Court of Justice in London found that the company had not provided a guardrail for the worker’s safety. The company pled guilty and accepted the fine.
