Cambridge shelter seeking donations for its hygiene kit program

Limited access to personal hygiene products is a huge issue for individuals who are experiencing homelessness including right here in Waterloo Region.

The Bridges on Simcoe Street in Cambridge has been providing emergency shelter and a host of other support services for individuals experiencing homelessness since 2005.

According to Cambridge Shelter Corporation, which operates The Bridges said one of its most popular and most needed services is its hygiene kit program.

Clients are provided with a bag containing a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, tissues, a bar of soap and facecloth. All the basics that can provide a little dignity while improving mental and overall health for the client.

Staff purchase the items and assemble the kits themselves. Often, they are tailored to the specific needs of the client.

But, the demand is growing.

The Cambridge Shelter Corp., is asking for donations to support this service.

A $10 donation will provide a travel sized kit, while a $25 donation will provide a full-sized kit.

Monetary donations are preferred because it allows staff the flexibility to purchase specific items for individual clients.

Although, physical donations will always be accepted and appreciated.

You can make a donation to the hygiene kit program at canadahelps.org. For a list of other much needed items visit cambridgeshelterco.ca
