A rally will take place in downtown Kitchener Saturday to mark the two-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The rally is set to take place at Kitchener City Hall this afternoon at 1 p.m. in solidarity with the over 400 similar rallies happening across the world in cities in Europe, Asia, and Argentina.

In Waterloo Region, finding homes for refugees has proven to be a challenge according to local officials.

Stephanie Goertz, the founder of the Waterloo Region Grassroots Response (WRGR), says there is a lack of knowledge and support for incoming Ukrainians.

“During the last month we’ve seen a huge influx from Ukrranians,” said Goertz. “We’re scrambling to keep up with the rate.”

Goetz added that WRGR receives between 25 to 30 requests a week from incoming Ukrainians.
