Weapon investigation leads to hold and secure at WCI

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Waterloo Collegiate Institute (WCI) was put in a hold and secure on Wednesday morning as police investigated a potential weapon incident.

The hold and secure was implemented at the high school just after 11 a.m. as a safety precaution.

Waterloo Regional Police said officers responded to the scene after they received reports that a person was planning to attend the high school with a weapon.

Police said one youth was arrested and charged with public mischief, and there’s no concern for public safety.

While the hold and secure was still in place, the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) said the ‘concern’ was outside of the school building and students were still learning in classrooms.

The hold and secure was lifted around 12:30 p.m.
