Rangers push past the Petes in Family Day matinee

The Rangers family celebrated their long weekend with a 6-2 win over the Peterborough Petes Monday.

This marks four wins in a row for the Blueshirts.

Goals were scored by Carson Rehkopf, Simon Motew, Matthew Sop, Eduard Šalé and Tanner Lam.

Rehkopf nabbed two of the six goals, putting him once again at the top of the OHL’s goal-scoring leaderboard, with 45 goals this season.

One of those goals was on the power play, something CityNews 570’s Colour Commentator Paul Fixter said is finally improving.

“They have been getting some good looks, but not the results, and tonight they got the looks and the results, which I think is huge … we know as we get closer to the playoffs, games are going to get tighter, power plays are that much more important, you have to be able to generate offence and score goals on the power plays, tonight they found a way, hopefully they can build off that.”

Early on in Monday’s match-up, the Rangers were down 2-0, something that Fixter noted didn’t last for long.

“The mental part of this game is every bit as important as the physical part of this game and they stayed mentally strong .. they stuck to it in the end.”

It will be a quieter week for the Rangers with the Sarnia Sting in town on Friday.

The Rangers look to get the season series sweep, already winning three of their last games against the Sting.

You can hear the game live on CityNews 570, broadcast time 6:35 p.m.
