Good deed gone wrong: Guelph couple almost has car stolen after stopping to check on woman

A good deed gone wrong in Guelph as an elderly couple nearly had their car stolen after they stopped to help what appeared to be a woman in distress.

According to Guelph police, the couple was driving in the Speedvale Avenue and Lewis Road area on Sunday afternoon when they saw a bare-footed woman lying on the side of the road.

The couple stopped to check on her and that’s when the woman allegedly hopped up and got into the driver’s seat.

The woman then put the car into reverse, almost hit another vehicle, and was dragging the elderly couple who were holding on to the car doors.

The husband was able to reach in and put the car into park. His wife was hurt and may have dislocated her shoulder.

The female suspect tried to run away but was tracked down by officers and arrested.

A 32-year-old Guelph woman is facing multiple charges including robbery and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
