Cambridge man charged after collision involving pedestrian

A busy intersection in east Cambridge was closed for hours Thursday evening for a serious collision involving a pedestrian.
It happened at Elgin Street North and Avenue Road, around 6:45 p.m.
Waterloo Regional Police confirmed to CityNews 570 a pedestrian was struck and injured. A 46-year-old Cambridge woman was transported by Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Most lanes of traffic around that intersection had to be closed for the investigation. Police announced the roads were open again around 10:30 p.m.
Following an investigation, the driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old Cambridge man, has been charged with careless driving causing bodily harm.
