Sonny’s restaurant, an iconic landmark in Waterloo, was demolished on Monday.
The drive-in restaurant located on Weber Street first opened in 1965. It was most famous for its burgers, onion rings, and fish and chips.
The previous owner, Paul Noussis, announced in May 2022 that the restaurant was up for sale.
Conestoga College bought the property in August 2022 after Sonny’s closed its doors for good.
“Plans are underway for an expansion of the Waterloo campus and the college will share details over the coming weeks,” said a spokesperson with Conestoga College in an e-mail statement to CityNews Kitchener.
