Woman found dead in Cambridge’s Silver Heights neighbourhood

The second homicide investigation of the year in Waterloo Region is underway in Cambridge Friday after a woman was found dead in the Silver Heights neighbourhood.

Waterloo Regional Police are focusing on a home on Fletcher Circle, where around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, they said a 61-year-old woman was found dead.

They were originally called to the home in the Guelph Avenue and Hespeler Road area for a wellbeing check.

A 57-year-old man has been arrested. Neighbours say he lived in the home with the woman.

Ken lives in the area and spoke with CityNews Kitchener. He said he hasn’t seen anything like this before.

“Never, not in this neighbourhood, it’s usually really quiet. I always encourage people to move to this neighbourhood, because it is usually a nice quiet neighbourhood.”

Ruby has lived on Fletcher for three years, and is shocked.

“Not in our neighbourhood; ever. Our neighbourhood is super safe, and my kids are out here alone all the time. This is scary cause this is a very highly populated kid circle.”

Police stress there is no concern for public safety.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
