Rangers score five unanswered late to stun Bulldogs

Down 5-1 entering the 3rd period on Friday night, the Kitchener Rangers pulled off an improbable comeback scoring five unanswered goals to beat the Bulldogs 6-5 in overtime.

Trent Swick scored two of those goals including the game-tying goal with just over four minutes remaining in the third.

Carson Rehkopf netted the game-winner just over a minute into overtime.

“We have a great team spirit, we don’t stop (no matter what) the score is, we keep pushing,” said Rangers coach Jussi Ahokas.

The Rangers had a strong night on special teams going 3-for-5 on the power play and killing all three penalties they faced.

“I think a lot of our players are underdogs,” said Swick. “We have no quit, we play until the last buzzer and we showed it tonight.”

Kitchener also got goals from Hunter Brzustewicz, Filip Mesar, and Antonino Pugliese in the win.

The Rangers have a rematch with the Bulldogs on Saturday night, this time in Brantford. Pregame on CityNews 570 with Mike Farwell and Paul Fixter begins at 6:30 p.m.
