Firearms scare in Kitchener leads to arrest and multiple charges

What began as a call to police about a man spotted with several guns in Kitchener has ended with multiple charges laid.

It began around 3:45, Thursday afternoon, with calls to Regional Police about someone near Thaler and Kinzie Avenues with multiple firearms.

That’s in the River Road and Fairway Road area.

Police stress that at no point did anyone say the suspect was using the guns or pointing them at anyone.

Officers got to the scene and arrested a 42-year old man.

When they did, they discovered the firearms were replicas, but the man had other prohibited weapons with him.

A police statement does not explain what those were.

The charges are Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; Possession of a firearm; Possession of a prohibited weapon; and Breach a release order.
