Waterloo City Council approved a six-storey building in the Northdale neighbourhood this week.

The City of Waterloo is sticking to their plans to build 16,000 new residential units by 2031.

On Monday, council approved a 168-unit apartment building.

It’s set to replace houses on four existing lots. It will take over lots at 83 and 85 Hickory Street West, as well as 265 and 267 Hemlock Street West.

The proposal said it will have 186 bedrooms in a mix of styles – it will also have underground parking with 57 spaces and parking spaces for 70 bicycles.

Development Planner, Tristin Deveau presented the residential building to council during their meeting.

“The applicants plan is to consolidate the lots and build a multi-residential building, the building will be six-storeys just over 21 metres in height.”

The new building will sit between the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University.

Waterloo City Council voted unanimously in favor of the new building.
