Cora’s restaurant in Waterloo closes after failing to pay rent

By Justine Fraser

People visiting the Shops at Waterloo Town Square may notice one of the local breakfast and lunch restaurants closed for business.

On Thursday, a notice was put up on the door of Cora’s restaurant, stating that the landlord changed the locks to deny access and terminate the lease agreement after the restaurant failed to pay their rent.

The notice then reads, “The landlord in so re-entering, terminating the lease agreement and changing the locks to the premises, expressly reserves the right to bring action for rent accrued and to claim damages for the loss of benefit of the lease agreement.”

It also states that any entry into the restaurant at 75 King Street South in Waterloo must be by permission from the landlord.

According to the notice, staff at Cora’s restaurant have until the end of the month to collect their belongings and items still left inside.

The restaurant and Cora’s head office were contacted by CityNews Friday but received no response.

The notice was dated November 16, 2023.
