Two people, including a bystander, are now in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries – following a reported robbery in Kitchener.
Police responded to the area of Victoria Street North and Lackner Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon for that call – just after 3 p.m.
The service said the victim in the incident had arranged to meet the suspect to sell a phone through a buy-and-sell website.
It’s alleged that during the transaction, there was an altercation between the involved parties – resulting in both the victim and a witness being hit with a noxious substance.
The suspect snatched the victim’s phone and fled in a silver sedan.
Police have since released a photo of the suspect they’d like to identify in relation to the robbery.
She’s described as a Black woman, 5’6″ tall and roughly 30 years old with a heavy build and long black hair.
That suspect was last seen wearing a black jacket, black leggings, a pink bucket hat and black running shoes.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
Police also remind local residents that there are three ‘Buy and Sell Exchange Zones‘ in Waterloo Region. Those spaces, designated specifically for buying, selling or trading property online, are located in parking lots of regional police facilities.
Members of the public are encouraged to use these spaces to finalize online transactions.
Alternatively, residents have been told to consider completing these transactions in well-lit, public and popular locations to avoid becoming a victim of crime.
