A big honour for a former Waterloo MPP.

Elizabeth Witmer has been named to the Order of Ontario

Witmer holds an important position in Region of Waterloo history, as the first woman elected as a Member of Provincial Parliament in Waterloo Region.

She is described by nominees as a “quiet trailblazer” who “always carried a spirit of thoughtful leadership and reform.”

Witmer also held the roles as Minister of Labour, Health, Environment and Education.

That just skims the surface of her impressive resume with roles alongside the University of Waterloo as well.

Twenty-six individuals in total received what is touted as the “province’s highest honour” this year, and will be recognized in a ceremony on Nov. 27.
