More than 1,000 new places to live are coming to Kitchener and Waterloo.
The council for each city met Monday night, and between three major developments in Kitchener, and one in Waterloo, all being approved, 1,017 new housing units are on the way.
Waterloo council said yes to a plan to convert the Allen Square office building at 180 King Street South into a residential building, adding extra floors to make it a 10-storey building, and creating 129 residential units.
It could be an 11-storey building depending if the final design for the top residential floor can be split into two floors while keeping the whole building less than 40 metres tall.
Kitchener council gave final approval for a two tower project at 1198 Fischer Hallman Road, just north of Bleams Road, with 373 residential units in a 14- and a 22-storey building.
Another 77 places to live got the green light to go up at 2934 King Street East, near Fairway Road South, in an 11-storey tower.
A statement from Kitchener city hall also highlights the approval of a 32-storey tower to go up at 83-87 Weber Street East, after extra storeys for the building were approved at a Special Council meeting the week before.
