It’s Nov. 1 and the annual Movember campaign has officially kicked off.
The annual campaign seeks to raise awareness of men’s physical and mental health by growing moustaches. It first began in 2003 in Australia with the goal of raising awareness of prostate cancer. Since then, it has evolved to include initiatives around mental health and testicular cancer.
Lisa MacDonald, the Co-Chair of Movember KW, said the regional chapter opened 14 years ago and is a huge contributor to the Movember Canada.
“Everybody has men in their life,” said MacDonald. “We have a lot of mental health organizations [in the region] and we think Movember is a great way to raise awareness of these issues.”
Last year, Movember raised $25.8 million in Canada and $115 million globally.
Here is a list of the events around the region:
Nov. 3 – Movember KW will be set up in the Community Corner at the Kitchener Rangers Game
Nov. 4 – A MAGICAL EVENING FOR MOVEMBER at Apollo Cinema. The Comedy Magic show will run from 6-8pm. Tickets are $25 with $10 from each ticket going to Movember.
