Another trustee for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) representing Kitchener-Wilmot has resigned.
Former trustee Julie Molenaar, said in a letter to the board from Oct. 12 she is resigning due to “personal circumstances.” In a statement, the board accepted her resignation and will appoint Winston Francis, the runner-up in the Cambridge-North Dumfries election in last year.
Tracey Weiler, the chair of the WCDSB, said the board looked at filling the vacancy by using a runner-up in the area a trustee represents, but voted to go another way.
“While there were runners-up that represented Kitchener-Wilmot, we did have the motion carried to fill the vacancy with the next runner up in a regional level,” said Weiler.
She noted the board found a byelection would be too expensive and would take over 90 days needed to fill the vacancy.
Molenarr becomes the third trustee to leave the board in the last five months. Wendy Ashby, who represented Kitchener-Wilmot, resigned in May following controversial comments and was replaced by Molenaar. Sally Fuentes, who represented Waterloo-Wellesley-Woolwich, resigned last month due to family reasons and was replaced by Conrad Stanley.
