Police have made an arrest after a recent vandalism incident at Willow River Centre in downtown Kitchener.

Graffiti written in chalk was discovered on the exterior of the building on King Street East on Sunday night.

Police announced Friday that the incident was determined to be hate-motivated.

A 38-year-old Kitchener man has been arrested. He faces charges including criminal harassment and mischief to religious property.

Willow River Centre was recently established by the organizers of Land Back Camp and it offers a safe, permanent gathering space for queer, Indigenous community members. An open house will be held on Oct. 7.
