Every Child Matters Walk held in Downtown Kitchener

By CityNews Kitchener staff

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is Saturday, Sept. 30, with many school children and staff wearing orange shirts Friday.

One of our local organizations selling those shirts is the Healing of the Seven Generations, which once again hosted an Every Child Matters Walk through Downtown Kitchener.

This year, the march started Saturday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. at the H7G building on 300 Frederick Street and ends at the Clock Tower in Victoria Park.

Executive director Donna Dubie said they are hoping to spread awareness and reflect on the tragedies experienced by Indigenous Peoples.

“That’s why Healing of the Seven Generations is here, to help our families move away from that harm that was created by the residential schools,” she said.

She notes there will be a big announcement before the walk, with drumming and speakers at THEMUSEUM after.

Details on how to support the Healing of the Seven Generations and participate in the march can be found here.
