The suspect in the stabbing at the University of Waterloo (UW) has his pre-trial date set for Sept. 26.
Geovanny Villalba-Aleman, 24, appeared in court in person Friday morning. Bail was not discussed and his case has been adjourned to Oct.13.
He faces several charges including aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, assault with a weapon, and attempted murder. He also faces a charge of mischief under $5,000 in relation to a torn pride flag.
New federal terrorism charges were announced last week, but the specifics are still being discussed by prosecutors.
Villalba-Aleman is accused of walking into a gender studies class on June 28 and attacked three people, including a teacher and three students. All victims sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Police believe the attack was hate-motivated in relation to gender identity and expression. Villalba-Aleman is a recent graduate and an international student.
Since the attack, the university has removed the locations and names of professors from their website citing safety concerns.
