The organizers of Land Back Camp have announced a new permanent gathering space in downtown Kitchener.
The new Willow River Centre is located at 243 King St East. It will offer drop-in hours, workshops, a community garden, live music, art markets, and community events.
It will be the first organization in the Region to be completely run by two spirit and Indigiqueer individuals.
Bangishimo, the co-director of the Willow River Centre, said the new location is the beginning of a new chapter for Land Back Camp. They added there are struggling for space because members of the two spirit and Indigiqueer community do not feel represented in other spaces.
“Our mission/vision has been to create a safe space for the queer, indigenous community,” they said.
Land Back Camp was first founded in Victoria Park, also referred to as Willow River Park, in June 2020.
The group is hoping to have a grand opening and open house in the first week of October.
