The second annual Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey classic raised over $350,000 for pediatric cancer care in the region.
Scotland’s Yard is an initiative in partnership with Grand River Hospital (GRH) that works to provide local cancer care for children in the community.
It is named for Scotland “Scottie” Santos who was diagnosed with blood cancer when she was three months old.
The event took place on Saturday, Aug. 12 at the Boardwalk in Waterloo and several current and former NHL players participated.
That included Detroit Red Wings defenceman Ben Chiarot. His wife, Jacqueline, is a co-chair of the event.
“We’re so grateful to everyone for coming together in such a fun way,” she said in a release. “Everyone who participated in Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic played an integral role in bringing more pediatric cancer services to our communities.”
In 2022, over $315,000 was raised for pediatric cancer care at GRH.
“It was wonderful to see so many people get behind bolstering pediatric cancer care in our communities,” said GRH president and chief executive officer (CEO), Paul McIntyre Royston.
