An update on the Stage 2 ION in Cambridge is coming to the Region of Waterloo Planning and Works Committee meeting Tuesday.
The hope is to get more clarity on where the line will end, and a timeline on the Stage 2 business case itself.
This report includes discussion around extending the preferred route through Preston to include a terminal in the Dundas Street and Main Street area.
The preferred route from 2019 instead headed south down Beverly towards Bruce street, but this proposal would see the line head southeast at the Dundas/Beverly roundabout.

A map showing the original preferred route and alternatives outlined by regional staff.
Councillors are also getting a better look at the timeline surrounding Stage 2 of the ION. When it comes to what the route itself could look like, more clarity is expected by December 2023.
The business case surrounding the light rail system in Cambridge isn’t expected to be in the works until early next year after the final stop on the route is decided. The hope is to have those financial details worked out by mid-2025.
