WRDSB confirms active code of conduct investigation of trustee

The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) has confirmed that there is an active code of conduct investigation of a trustee.

On Monday, Mike Ramsay, a board trustee, wrote on social media that there was a code of conduct complaint made against him.

The WRDSB did not confirm that, and in a statement, board chair Joanne Weston, said, “The investigation involves one or more Waterloo Region District School Board employees so it has to be treated as an in camera item.”

There are no details as to what specifically the complaint was made about. However, Ramsay posted on social media that “It’s about something I said in meetings and on a radio show years ago.”

Ramsay was previously suspended from June to September of 2022 for a breach of the Code of Conduct. Ramsay is challenging that ruling in court.

In her statement, Weston said respecting the Code of Conduct is a critical part of governing the school board.

“We are, as ever, focused on student achievement and well-being in our work as the Board of Trustees serving the students and families of the WRDSB, while respecting the processes laid out in the Code of Conduct.”
