Rock music is on its way to Carl Zehr Square.
The City of Kitchener is hosting the Wayback Festival Saturday, and they’re calling it a can’t-miss event for music fans.
The free event is headlined by Canadian rock icon Kim Mitchell, with opening acts Sass Jordan and Conor Gains from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m..
The event starts at 3 p.m., featuring some of the country’s best youth talent. Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic says he and the city are especially looking forward to Canada’s Teen Jam.
“We’re really excited about the teen jam event because it’s an opportunity and showcase for some of the most talented young musicians that exist in our province and our country.”
Vrbanovic told CityNews that he believes it may even give the next global artist or band their first big opportunity in front of a large crowd.
He added that it’s been fantastic to see the success of Kitchener events this year.
“It’s been really fantastic to see how the community is coming back together, the sense of connection and belonging that people are finding again, and how this really is an opportunity for us to celebrate that. Celebrate the music that we love, celebrate our neighbours and our community and really look forward with optimism for the future.”
Parking is available in the city hall parking garage.
