New Initiative at Priority Mechanical to Support MRI Campaign

By David DeRocco

The fabric of a strong community is woven together with many different threads, and a strong and fully engaged local business community is one of them.

Small businesses not only drive employment and commerce, but they can also be instrumental in supporting the various charities, causes, sports teams, and projects so vital to enhancing the quality of life for local residents.

The Knoop Family certainly understands the importance of supporting community causes as a small business. It’s a reason why they are implementing a new charitable initiative through their well-known family-owned local business, Priority Mechanical.

“As part of our annual charitable contributions, we’ll be donating a portion of our sales to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation,” said Dakota Shea, Marketing Coordinator for the local heating, cooling, plumbing, and contracting company. “They are in the middle of fundraising for an MRI machine, and we thought it was important to support their efforts because the hospital is so important to the community.”

This is the first year that Priority Mechanical will be integrating the fundraising initiative into their corporate social responsibility efforts. It’s part of the company’s broader strategy to ensure Priority Mechanical is doing all it can to improve the community in which it operates.

“We find that for us, because we are a locally owned and operated family business, it’s important to contribute,” said Shea.  “One of our big things is we like people to see the value in families helping families. At the end of the day our main goal is to help people, not to just make money as a business. It’s so important because small businesses in small communities are what makes the community strong.”
The commitment to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation is just the latest charitable cause to benefit from the efforts of the entire team at Priority Mechanical, which currently employs nearly 80 people in the area. In the past the company has supported such worthwhile causes as Ayr Minor Hockey, Cambridge Ice Hounds, MADD, DeafBlind Ontario, Waterloo Wolves, Ayr Minor Softball, Ayr Centennials, Hike for Hospice, Ayr Community Theatre, Autism Dogs, various GoFundMe pages, and their biggest cause, The Cambridge Memorial Foundation.

With air conditioning season approaching, Shea said it’s a good opportunity for anyone requiring service, maintenance, or a new A/C system to consider Priority Mechanical as any work being completed will result in a donation to the MRI fundraising campaign at the hospital. While the company has been known for its construction business, recent growth in the service department has increased their capacity for emergency services for all heating, cooling, and plumbing projects which could help bring added weight to the company’s charitable giving plans.

“Even when the MRI machine is purchased, we’re going to continue with the campaign because the hospital needs as much funding as it can get,” said Shea. “Any of the service calls from our service department including heating, cooling, and plumbing, will result in a donation.”
