Cambridge Memorial Hospital hit a speed bump this week.
On Wednesday evening, the hospital was testing it’s generators, which caused an unexpected mechanical failure in the chillers that cool the operating rooms, leading to a rise in humidity above the recommended levels.
In a statement provided to CityNews 570, the hospital confirmed that 54 elective surgeries and 39 minor procedures were deferred to later in the week.
The delay was made to give the hospital time to re-sterilized surgical equipment.
Cambridge Memorial stated that they are working with surgeons and staffing to prioritize and re-schedule these cases, and they are working with vendors to assess any impact to the quality of surgical supplies.
The hospital confirmed that emergency surgeries would continue into the weekend.
